Taniwha Vagina is a work that I completed in 2017. I set out to create a space that suggested movement, of fluidity but solidity, of water and rock. Using simple earthen colours I practiced gradients and blending. As this process went on I was enamoured by the palette I had chosen; the colours reminded me of the country I grew up in—New Zealand. I remembered the Maori mythology, and the story of the Taniwha which is said to be a water monster that lives in dark caves or the ocean.
